Song of the Day: EL VY “Paul Is Alive”

Quick post today just to alert you that I have a new listening obession: I’ve fallen completely down the EL VY rabbit hole. I don’t want to say TOO much because there’s a full album review on the way, but let me just say that this song is one of my favorites and is the gateway track that got me hooked on the whole album. The first time I listened to it, I repeated it. Then I repeated it again. And again. And again. And again. I think I literally listened to just this the entire way home one evening (I have about a 30 minute commute, by the way). Highlights: a swing-y, west coast vibe that is irresistible, catchy, current, and edgy all at the same time; acoustic layers that make listening to it over and over not only possible but desirable; Matt Berninger’s moody baritone—he has, in my opinion, one of the sexiest voices in the business; also evocative, broodingly dramatic lyrics. It seems to work for every mood I have, any time of day and I’ve yet to get sick of it. Enjoy!
