The Counterfactuals release new single, “Might As Well Join In”

Last week, to my great pleasure, I received a note on Twitter from Northfield’s prof-rock group, The Counterfactuals announcing the release of a brand new single. Naturally I dropped everything I was doing to go check it out.

I was lucky enough to spend some time with the group last spring, when I wrote a piece on them for MPR’s Local Current Blog, and it was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. Comprised of four college professors (3 philosophy and 1 music) with varied and impressive music resumes, their debut album, Minimally Decent People, was one of my favorite discoveries of 2014. They deliver the best that indie-rock can offer a chill, lush sound with superbly clever lyrics. Plus, they’re some of the nicest guys ever, and deliver great live shows.

The new single “Might As Well Join In” builds on their already impressive sound and is an excellent teaser for what I hope is a soon-to-be-released album. In the meantime, however, I’ll be rocking out to the new track and revisiting last years album while I wait…and stalking their website for the next bit of news or concert dates.

You can stream “Might As Well Join In” here or purchase it here, and you can purchase their album in all the usual spaces—Bandcamp, Amazon, and iTunes. For updates on tours and future releases, be sure to also check out their website. If you’re interested in reading my piece for the Current, you can find it here.
